DIR: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI)’s desire to elect own district and all four tehsils nazims and naib nazims unopposed was spoiled by none else, but its own councillor, Gul Bahadur, when he filed nomination papers against the party nominated tehsil nazim, Hussain Ahmad, in Wari tehsil.
The election in Wari tehsil was postponed after both Hussain Ahmad and his rival Gul Bahadur got seven votes each. The naib nazim election also ended in tie after the equal number of votes was secured by both candidates. For that slot Muhammad Mushtaq of the JI was competing against the PTI’s Saeed Shah.
Re-election will now be held in Wari on September 6.
Gul Bahadur was elected as a tehsil member, but he unexpectedly filed papers against his own party candidate. The circumstances went totally against the JI’s planning because they were at the same time trying to pursue the opposition parties in other two tehsils, Dir and Kalkot. And they were never expecting that their own man will mar the plan.
The JI insiders said that they had tried their best till last moment to persuade Gul Bahadur to withdraw his nomination papers, but he didn’t budge.
JI district head Sahibzada Fasihullah told this correspondent that his party was trying to persuade Gul Bahadur to retire in favour of the JI candiate.
“We were hopeful that he would agree and the JI will succeed to form tehsil government in Wari,” he added.
