MANSEHR: The Pakistan Tehreek-ieInsaf and Pakistan People’s Party have moved legal forums against five own councillors whose votes paved the way for installation of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz district government in Mansehra.
“We have served show-cause notices and launched legal formalities to get our four councillors de-seated who voted for the rival contenders. One of them remained absent from the process,” Shafahat Ali, contender of district nazim told reporters on Monday. Shafahat Ali had lost to his rival PML-N contender for the district nazim slot, Said Ghulam, by five votes in the election held on Sunday. According to Ali, Shehryar Khan, nephew of Senator Azam Khan Swati, elected from Oghi tehsil and Uzma Baseer and Saeed Luqman Gill elected on seats reserved for women and minorities, respectively, voted for the PML-N contender against the party line. He said Urooj Kaleem, another PTI woman councillor, who was elected on the seats reserved for women, remained absent during election process.
Shafahat Ali said that show-cause notices were served on all four to clarify their position.
The former district president of PTI said that besides issuing show-cause notices to these councillors, who committed floor-crossing, legal formality was also started de-seat them.
He said applications had been submitted to convener of the district council, retuning officer concerned and election commission calling for necessary action under the Local Government Ordinance 2015. The Pakistan People’s Party also served show-cause notice on its councillor Babar Bahadur elected on seat reserved for minorities, who voted for the PML-N contenders.
