PESHAWAR: The Independence Day was celebrated in the educational institutions of the provincial metropolis with enthusiasm, as many institutions remained opened on Friday despite the summer vacations.
The students and faculty members had been specially called to attend their institutions and take part in the independence days functions.
At the University of Peshawar the day started with Quran Khwani in different mosques of the campus. Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan hoisted the national flag in front of the convocation hall of the University which was followed by police parade by the campus peace corps.
A book exhibition comprising books written on the Pakistani Movement and a photo exhibition on were arranged at the university.
The vice-chancellor also cut a cake to mark the day. The students performed plays about independence. The vice-chancellor addressed the students and faculty members, who had gathered at the convocation hall.
A function was arranged at the Pakistan Study Centre. Director Dr Fakhrul Islam hoisted the National flag on the premises of the centre. The faculty members and students had decorated the building of the centre on the occasion.
An impressive ceremony was arranged at the Islamia College Peshawar to mark the day. There was a flag hoisting ceremony which was followed by march-past by a smart contingent of university’s security guards who presented salute to the National flag. A function was also at the Roos Keppel Hall where speakers paid tributes to the martyrs of Independence Movement leaders.
At the University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar, Vice-Chancellor Syed Imtiaq Hussain Gilani hoisted the national flag to mark the day.
The day was marked at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Razia Sultana hoisted the National flag.
The Gandhara Hindko Academy arranged a colourful function to mark the day. People from various walks of life attended the programme, arranged on the lawn of the academy located at the University Town, Peshawar.
The participation of families, including women and children, added to the attraction of the ceremony. An educationist and Vice-Principal of the Khyber Girls Medical College, Professor Dr Samina Zahid, was the chief guest.
