PESHAWAR: Girls, mostly from the Jinnah College for Women, shined in the Intermediate examination by clinching the overall top three positions as the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Peshawar declared FA and FSc results on Monday.
Six among the seven girl students, who shared the top three positions, were from the Jinnah College.
Farah Gul of the college topped the board by obtaining 1002 out of the total 1100 marks.
Four female students with one from Islamia College for Girls and the remaining three from Jinnah College shared the second position, by securing 995 marks. They included Haseena Fazal, Hina Shams, Maria Ahmad and Shafiq Tanveer.
The two third position holding girls -Alvina Karam and Zainoor Fida - also belonged to Jinnah College, who secured 994 marks.
Similarly, 16 of the overall top 20 positions were clinched by girl students. Fourteen of them belonged to Jinnah College and the remaining one each to Islamia College for Girls and Forward Girls College Hayatabad, Peshawar. The four male students among the top 20 were the students of Islamia College Peshawar.
The results were declared at an award distribution ceremony arranged on the premises of the board.
Vice-chancellor Islamia College University Ajmal Khan was the chief guest on the occasion.
The ceremony was also addressed by chairman of the board Dr Mohammad Shafi Afridi and Controller Examination Hamidullah Jan Marwat. The position holder students were awarded cash prizes, commendation certificates and shields.
The controller examination said that over 96, 000 students appeared in both first and second years of the examination.
A total of 46,909 students appeared in the first year. Of them 32,093 students qualified the exam with a pass percentage of 68.1. Similarly 49,192 students appeared in the Part-II and 35035 passed the exams with a pass percentage of 72.11.
In the Pre-engineering Group, all the three top positions were secured by male students. Abdur Rahman of Islamia College Peshawar secured 984 marks to top the discipline. He was followed by Mian Sajawal Shah and Saifullah of the same college with 983 and 981 marks, respectively.
In the General Science Group, Sharif Ahmad of Islamia College Peshawar secured the top position by obtaining 944 marks. He was followed by Kamran Khan of Shinwari Model College Landikotal, Khyber Agency, with 942 marks, and Naima Tariq of the Jinnah College with 932 marks.
Hafiza Kianat of the Peshawar Model Degree College topped the Humanities Group. She obtained 884 marks.
Zara Hidayat of the Jinnah College for Women got 880 marks to secure second position and Shahzadi Maryam of the Iqra Huffaz College for Girls stood third with 875 marks.
Shahidul Haq, a private student, topped the Theology Group. He bagged 809 marks.
The chief guest in his tri-lingual brief speech praised the position holders and urged them to maintain their pace of hard work. He said only through hard work they could excel in life. “It doesn’t matter whether you qualify for the professional institutions or not. You can reach the
top even in common fields through your hard work,” he remarked.
He gave the example of late Professor Pareshan Khattak, who remained vice-chancellor of three universities and chairman of the then University Grants Commission being a professor of Pashto.
