DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Gunmen shot dead a man and injured three others in Basti Darkhanwali in the limits of Cantonment Police Station on Tuesday, official sources said.They said that Khalid, Ali, Saeed and Ghulam Qasim were on their way home when Gula and his son Gulzar fired at them, leaving them critically injured. The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan where Ali succumbed to his injuries. The condition of the other injured was stated to be stable. Motive behind the incident could not be ascertained.The police registered the case and started investigation.
HU acting VC assumes charge

MANSEHRA: Dr Habib Ahmad has assumed the charge of acting Vice-Chancellor of Hazara University on Tuesday.Dr Habib Ahmad replaced Dr Shahzad Ahmad who had tendered resignation after a student of the university injured several students and staff members in a grenade attack in June this year.Higher Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa issued a notification on Monday declaring Dr Habib as acting vice chancellor. Dr Habib Ahmad had joined Hazara University as professor in March 2005. He served the WWF-Pakistan, Higher Education Department, Khyber Pakhtun khwa and Pakistan Agricultural Research Council for almost 21 years. He started professional career as Junior Scientific Officer at the National Agricultural Research Center, Islamabad on February 2, 1986.
15 injured in Kohat road mishap

KOHAT: Fifteen persons sustained injuries when a speeding trailer rammed into the Toll Plaza on the Indus Highway here on Tuesday, eyewitnesses said. They said that a speeding trailer loaded with scraps was coming from Peshawar when it rammed into the Kohat Toll Plaza, leaving 15 persons injured. Eight vehicles were partially damaged and an oil-tanker caught fire.Following the incident, rescue teams reached the spot and started rescue operation. They shifted the injured to the hospitals in Kohat and Peshawar.
Labourers set deadline for demands fulfillment

TAKHTBHAI: The Muttahida Labour Federation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tuesday threatened to hold protest sit-in and demonstration outside the Chief Minister’s House on August 14 if their demands were not fulfilled till August 13.Hundreds of labourers held a gathering in front of the Rehman Cotton Mill in Takhtbhai city to press the government for fulfillment of their demands.The Muttahida Labour Federation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Muhammad Iqbal Khan and other office-bearers including provincial organiser Faqir Hussain Lala, general secretary Mohammad Nabi, vice-president Mohammad Zaman, Muslim Sabir and other key leaders attended the labours’ gathering.
