PESHAWAR: Residents of Jala Bela village Sunday asked the government to compete the work on construction of embankment along the Kabul River.
Talking to The News on Sunday, villagers including Bacha, Haider Khan, Fahim, Sar Zamin and others said that the government had launched construction work five months back but it was left halfway.
They said the villagers would not have been forced to leave homes had the construction work completed in time.
The affectees said that the floodwater inundated the village and around 20 houses were damaged.
They said that those villagers who could not arrange shelters in other areas remained in the village. The floodwaters destroyed standing crops in the village.
During a visit to the affected areas in Mian Gujjar village, this scribe noticed that people were shifting children and belongings to a safer place as the surroundings had been flooded.
Families were seen leaving the village as surrounding areas had come under water after a heavy rain and they feared their area would come under water as well.
The flanks of the road near the bridge at Mian Gujjar were also washed away by floodwater and needed an urgent repair.
