MANSEHRA: An official of the Education Department in Kohistan has revealed that about 90 percent male and female teachers in the district are ‘untrained,’ which is a basic cause of education mess in the area.
Speaking at a seminar organised by Alif Ailan at Siam College in Dassu on Friday, sub-divisional education officer Tanveer Khan said that UNESCO had proposed to Pakistan to spend 4 percent of gross domestic products (GPD) on education.
“The provincial government bears about Rs 1billion annually on the salary and offices of education department in Kohistan alone,” he added.Speaking on occasion, Coordinator of Alif Ailan Hafizur Rehman said that though government is spending a reasonable chunk of its budget, corruption is the big reason, which creates hurdles to promotion of quality education in remote and less developed districts like Kohistan.
