Apex Committee discusses police induction into tribal districts

PESHAWAR: The Apex Committee, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday discussed the issue of induction of police in the merged tribal districts and decided that

the local systems and traditions would be a deciding factor.

“The Apex Committee discussed the issue of induction of police in the merged areas and debated it from various angles.

It has been decided that the local systems and traditions shall be a deciding factor as the Levies and Khassadars have served the area and rendered huge sacrifices,” said an official communiqué issued after the meeting.

Governor Shah Farman presided over the meeting. Special Assistant to Prime Minister Iftikhar Durrani, Minister for Health Dr Hisham Inamullah Khan, Advisor to Chief Minister Ziaullah Bangash, Corps Commander Peshawar Lt.

Gen Shaheen Mazhar Mehmood, Chief Secretary Muhammad Saleem Khan, Inspector General of Police Muhammad Naeem, and heads of other law-enforcing agencies and administrative secretaries attended the meeting.

A committee under Ajmal Khan Wazir, Advisor to the Chief Minister, was formed to engage with the representatives of Levies and Khassadars.

It was decided that their demands under the ambit of law would be accepted.

The Apex Committee also discussed provision of a forum for alternate dispute resolution mechanism.

A committee was formed to search a proper location and ensure provision of land and other facilities for setting up a small industrial estate for hunting and sporting arms industries of Darra Adamkhel.

The forum also decided that the presence of teachers and doctors in the government schools and hospitals would be ensured in the best public interest and those unwilling to perform their duties would be fired and replaced by eligible local people.

The Apex Committee reviewed the overall security situation of the province, especially the tribal districts, and the progress made after the merger of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
