PESHAWAR: Protests continued against the release of anti-Islam movie across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday.

 

The traders, transporters, students, political activists and members of the religious organisations staged rallies in Peshawar and elsewhere in the province against the profane video and urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take up the issue with the United States seriously.

 

The members of the Association of Excise & Taxation Department, activists of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz led by a local leader Arbab Khizer Hayat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Transport Owners Federation, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, students of various colleges and different departments of University of Peshawar and others held demonstrations outside the Peshawar Press Club, Grand Trunk Road, Ring Road, Kohat Road, University Campus and in part of the old city during which the protesters blocked the roads and chanted slogans against the US and its allies.

 

The blockade resulted in massive traffic jams on almost all the roads in the city. The irate protesters set on fire the effigies of the President Barack Obama and American flags. They demanded the government to sever diplomatic relations with the US and expel its diplomats from Pakistan.

 

The teaching and non-teaching staff at the University Campus Peshawar staged protest against the blasphemous movie.The teaching staff, class III and class IV employees gathered outside the Convocation Hall and were addressed by acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Qibla Ayaz, president Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) Prof Dr Humayun and others.Later, they started protest march towards PUTA Hall and set effigy of the US Pastor Terry Jones on fire.

 

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The traders and students staged protest rally against the blasphemous video.The protesters, led by Member Provincial Assembly Khalifa Abdul Qayyum and traders’ leader Raja Akhtar Ali, asked the government to register protest with the US over the provocative act.

 

TIMERGARA: A complete shutdown was observed against the anti-Islam video. The protesters chanted slogans against the US, saying that the United Nations must take action over such issues.

 

CHAKDARA: The activists of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl took out protest rallies against the US and the West for instigating violence in the Muslim world through such provocative acts.

 

BISHAM: Residents of Thakot staged demonstration here against the sacrilegious movie produced in the US.

 

The protesters led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Naeem Shaheen blocked the Karakoram Highway for two hours.

 

BANNU: Traders here also staged protest against the sacrilegious movie demanding action against the blasphemer.The protesting traders were carrying banners and placards inscribed with words against the filmmaker and chanting anti-US slogans.

 

GHALLANAI: People belonging to various areas in Mohmand Agency also staged rallies against the anti-Islam movie and blocked the Peshawar-Bajaur road for traffic. The protesters asked the Ulema to declare ‘Jihad’ against the US-led Nato forces in Afghanistan.

 

MANSEHRA: The traders’ body have announced complete shutdown strike today against the profane film.
