BISHAM: Criticising the prime minister for not announcing any development and compensation package for the district, the elected representatives and members of the Shangla Action Committee on Saturday announced to launch a protest movement if their demands were not accepted.
Addressing a press conference, MPAs Mohammad Rashad Khan and Fazlullah Khan, Shangla Action Committee Chairman Zafar Iqbal and others termed Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Asharaf’s visit to Shangla and inauguration of Khan Khwar Hydropower Project a joke with the local people.
They lambasted the premier for not announcing any development package for their backward district.
They said a big protest meeting would be held tomorrow to devise future line of action against the project as the government had not announced any compensation for the dam affectees and share in the royalty for the area.
“We were ignored as the prime minister did not allow us to speak about the problems faced by the people despite our repeated contacts with the concerned quarters,” MPA Mohammad Rashad Khan complained.
