PESHAWAR: The Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) has supported early general elections to resolve the present crisis.

Talking to The News, PPP-S Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter president Sikandar Hayat Sherpao said the country was going through a critical time as a confrontation among some institutions, poor economy and worsening law and order were among the factors that warranted early elections.

The PPP-S leader said the party wanted to achieve rights for the Pakhtuns because they needed a genuine leadership and the PPP-S was all set to fill this vacuum. He said the party would pursue the agenda to obtain and protect the rights of Pakhtuns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and in Afghanistan.

The PPP-S provincial chief said the party was planning to field candidates across the province in the forthcoming general elections. The party leadership has already increased the organisational efforts in Peshawar and Nowshera while the outcome of the campaign remained heartening in Malakand and Swabi districts, he added.

Rating the four and half-year performance of the Awami National Party and Pakistan People’s Party coalition in the province as total failure, Sikandar Sherpao alleged the allies had got mandate in the last elections for restoring peace, yet they failed to achieve the objective.“Today the amn lashkar leaders are being killed as the government has failed to protect them,” he said.
