BISHAM: The elders in Shangla district on Friday put off protest after the authorities assured them of power supply from the newly established Khan Khwar Hydropower Project.

 

The announcement was made after the elders held talks with the authorities about supply of electricity from the powerhouse to Shangla that proved fruitful.Member Provincial Assembly Muhammad Rashad, former district nazim Ibad, Afsarul Mulk of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and others represented the elders.

 

The official team was headed by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Muhammad Ayaz and comprised of Chief Engineer (high head projects) Shafiq Afridi, Chief Engineer (operations) Muhammad Hassan and District Police Officer (DPO) Najeebur Rehman and others.

 

During the meeting, the elders were informed that the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) chairman had released Rs20 million for the construction of gridstation in the district.

 

Besides, additional Rs20 million had also been released for water projects in the district.The officials said a team of Wapda would arrive in the district on July 9 to decide on the supply of electricity to the district from the power project through a backline.

 

Earlier, on the call of the grand jirga complete shutdown was observed in Bisham Bazaar. All the educational institutions and banks in Bisham, the district headquarters, remained closed.
