PESHAWAR: Khidmatgar Qaumi Jirga of the Warsak Dam affectees have praised some members of the provincial assembly from Peshawar district for disclaiming share in the royalty from the dam and distributing the amount among the people of the areas affected by the reservoir.
Speaking at a news conference on Friday, president of the jirga Arbab Shehryar Khan, chairman Sarwar Din and others also lauded the chief minister for increase in royalty from five to 10 percent.
They said according to the Wapda survey, the areas affected by the dam was from six to 10 kilometers, which fell under the provincial assembly constituency PK-7.
However, they accused Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Kiramatullah Khan of playing politics over the dam royalty issue. They alleged the speaker wanted to divert the royalty amount to the development projects and warned of protest if that was done.
They also demanded the government and Wapda authorities to provide free of cost 10 megawatt electricity from the new power house being constructed on the Warsak Dam to the people of the area. They also asked the government to fix the price of electricity at Rs1.2 per unit for the power consumers living the areas affected by the Warsak Dam.
