PESHAWAR: Two paramilitary Frontier Corps personnel were injured in a rocket attack at the Tochi Scouts Camp in Miranshah on Friday night, official sources said.

The sources said unidentified people fired three rockets from an unknown direction that landed near the Officers Mess of Tochi Scouts and the official residence of the political agent.

The rockets went off with heavy explosions and caused damage to the walls of the Officers’ Mess and injured two FC personnel.

Political Agent Siraj Ahmad Khan was reportedly staying at his official residence when the rockets fell near the sprawling bungalow, but he remained unhurt.

Siraj Ahmad was transferred to North Waziristan Agency a week ago. Before that he served as the district coordination officer Peshawar. It was not clear if the political agent was the target of the assailants or they wanted to hit the FC Officers Mess.

The security forces immediately started heavy mortar and artillery shelling and pounded the mountains of Spalga, Surkot and Anghar Killay. There was no information about any losses caused by the shelling.

The political administration on Saturday issued notices to the elders of Miranshah village under the territorial responsibility section of the Frontier Crimes Regulation and asked them to hand over those involved in the rocket attack on the Officers’ Mess or face the consequences.

Meanwhile, the political administration announced curfew in the entire North Waziristan Agency for an indefinite period.

The political administration urged the people to stay away from the roads during the curfew. It said the curfew would remain enforced on the Bannu-Miranshah Road, Miranshah-Dattakhel Road, Miranshah-Gharlamay Road, Miranshah-Ghulam Khan Road and Miranshah-Razmak Road from Sunday till an indefinite time.
