PESHAWAR: Four persons including three Pakistanis were killed while allegedly planting landmine in Janikhel district of Paktia province, an Afghan official claimed on Sunday.

Mukhlis Afghan, spokesman for the Governor of Paktia, told the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) that four people were planting mine in Babukhel village of Janikhel when the mine exploded prematurely. He said all the four mine planters were killed in the explosion, adding three of them were Pakistanis and hailed from the Punjab province.

The spokesman alleged a mine planted by these people had killed a child and wounded five others in Yahyakhel district, also in Paktia.

The Interior Ministry also confirmed the death of three Pakistanis in the blast. However, the names of the Pakistanis killed in the blast weren’t provided. Taliban or Pakistani militant groups have made no comment on the claim by the Afghan authorities.
