NOWSHERA: The number of schools destroyed in the district reached 22 after the militants blew up the government-run school for boys in Mera Kheshgi on Tuesday, official sources said.
The sources said the militants had planted explosives in a water cooler and placed it inside the Government Middle School Sher Afzal Korona in Mera Kheshgi that went off and destroyed two rooms.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nowshera Cantonment Riaz Khan said two motorcyclists had placed the explosive inside the building. He said the watchman of the school, Ali Jan Hussain, who was not present in the school at the time of explosion, was under investigation.
Soon after the explosion, villagers started rescue work by removing the debris of the destroyed building.
The police and elite force launched search operation in the area. Of the 22 schools destroyed in the district nine were for girls.
