PESHAWAR: Known scientist and associate professor at the University of Tennessee, USA, Dr Raziq Yaqub on Saturday said there was need for modernising the existing power grids to meet the consumers demand for electricity.
The modern grid has the potential to meet the increasing energy demand without adding new generating capacity, he said while delivering a lecture at a seminar titled ‘Smart Grid Technology Potential and Application for Pakistan.’
The seminar was organised by the CECOS University, Peshawar, and sponsored by the Higher Education Commission Islamabad.
Dr Raziq Yaqub, who hails from Peshawar and is the recipient of numerous awards with over 30 patents to his credit, said there was a dire need to put the existing grids on modern lines for meeting Pakistan’s rising energy needs. The role of information and communication technology in the adoption of electric vehicles was discussed and a number of areas for research projects were identified in the seminar.
