With construction of two lanes,flow of traffic on Islamabad Expressway improves

The flow of traffic on Islamabad Expressway has been eased following completion of work on additional two lanes while the deck has also been laid on the I-8 interchange.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has set the deadline of November 30 for opening of first phase of expressway which has been met. Over last few days, the development work was executed for 24 hours in presence of top management of the authority.
After completions of additional lanes, loops and carpeting, lane marking work is in full swing to make the Sector I-8 bridge operational within 4 days whereas final touches are being given to plantation and landscaping of the signal-free expressway project.
CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal accompanied by Member Administration and Estate Amer Ali Ahmed and other senior officers of the Engineering Wing visited the project to inspect the development work being carried out round the clock to give the final touches to the project.
The CDA chairman said that girders and deck have been laid on the I-8 interchange while the bridge would be made fully operational in four days. He said after completion of the additional lanes, carpeting and lane marking and the loops included in scope of the project is virtually complete. However, final touches are being given.
A German road infrastructure expert has supervised the carpeting, which has been carried out in line with the international standard to ensure quality project execution. Modern German machinery has also been utilised to carry out the carpeting and other development work on the unique project.
The CDA management said that the project is of utmost priority as Islamabad Highway is the major artery for access to the capital city with ever-growing traffic, adding that the expansion of Islamabad Highway was the dire need of the hour for easing ever-increasing traffic flow.
The CDA chairman said that work on the drainage system and retaining wall along the newly constructed lane has been completed whereas environmental work on the project to protect and preserve the green character and ensure its proper horticulture development, especially greenbelts, median strips, is being given final touches.
