Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Sajid Kiani on Tuesday reviewed security arrangements for the first-ever local government elections in the capital to ensure complete implementation of the code of ethics of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The meeting, presided over by him, was attended among others by SP Industrial Area Yasir Afridi, returning officer, deputy returning officer, DSPs Industrial Area and Shams Colony and other police officials.
The meeting reviewed overall security arrangements. SSP (Operations) Sajid Kiani briefed policemen on the maintenance of effective security on the polling day. He said that there would be complete ban on display of weapons on the polling day. He directed all police officials to conduct security survey in their respective areas and submit report about sensitive polling stations so that extra security may be deployed there. He said that elections would be held in conducive environment as per code of ethics of the ECP.
He directed police to enhance patrolling during the canvassing campaign by the candidates so that no untoward incident could occur. He said that Pakistan is a peaceful democratic country and conducive environment will be ensured on the occasion of LG elections.
"There will be a positive message in the country through peaceful elections in the capital,” he said. Police will not spare anyone trying to disrupt the peaceful environment on the occasion,” SSP Sajid Kiani added.
APP adds: As many as 6,76,795 registered voters will use their right of vote in the 50 Union Councils (UCs) of the Islamabad Capital Territory in the upcoming Local Government elections on November 30.
Out of total registered voters the strength of male voters in the ICT are 3,66,899 and female voters 3,09,896, said spokesman of the ECP talking to APP.
A total of 640 polling stations will be established and out of which 261 will be for males and 256 for females. However, 123 polling stations will be combined for men and women, he added.
