The population in the district is facing the most intense phase of dengue fever spike as in last six days only, another 410 patients have been tested positive for the infection here at the allied hospitals in town while the infection claimed another two lives taking tally to six.
Data collected by ‘The News’ on Tuesday reveals that till Tuesday morning, the three teaching hospitals including Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District Headquarters Hospitals tested a total of 2066 patients positive for dengue fever while the infection claimed five lives at HFH and one at BBH so far.
According to details, as many as 54 patients were tested positive at BBH in last 24 hours, 23 at HFH and six at DHQ Hospital. On Tuesday, a total of 110 patients including confirmed and suspected ones were undergoing treatment at BBH, 77 at HFH and 33 at DHQ Hospital.
During the recent dengue fever outbreak that started in August this year, the BBH has tested a total of 917 patients positive for the infection while as many as 856 confirmed patients were registered at HFH so far. The number of confirmed patients registered with DHQ Hospital is 293.
On Tuesday, as many as four patients of dengue shock syndrome and 68 patients of dengue hemorrhagic fever were undergoing treatment at HFH which is alarming. The cases of DHF are differentiated from dengue fever on the basis of history of bleeding from gum or skin while the mortality rate of DSS is much higher as compared to dengue fever. It is worth mentioning here that the cases of DSS are taken as critical cases medically.
Currently the dengue fever outbreak can be termed as intense but with the fall in temperature, the incidence of infection would reduce to a great extent and temperature has already started falling in the region, said Medical Superintendent at HFH Dr. Raja Shafiq Sarwar while talking to ‘The News’ on Tuesday.
He added that individuals have to play their role to control dengue fever spike at the moment. People should have to take necessary preventive and control measures inside their homes giving mosquitoes no room to grow and feed on humans, he said.
When asked that it is being reported in various sections of media that a confirmed patient of Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever died here at HFH on Tuesday, he said no patient has been tested positive for CCHF at HFH recently.
