On the directives of the Punjab government, the entire workforce of the local government departments, including officials and officers, have focused their attention towards eradication of dengue virus in Rawalpindi.
As the entire staff has diverted its attention towards the dengue fever issue, no other basic problems are being taken care of by the officials and officers for resolution. Whenever anyone visits any department, whether it be RDA, Wasa, PHA, PWD, Public Health and Physical Planning besides the City District Government in connection with their basic problems, they fail to find relevant officers, including directors and engineers. They are told that the concerned official has gone on sites where the situation of dengue fever is alarming. People, while voicing concern over the assigning of the entire staff on the task of the dengue issue in every local government department, said it was the work of civic bodies and health departments not development bodies like RDA to work for eradication of dengue virus.
RDA Spokesman Hafiz Irfan, without denying, said that till now more than 1,050 under-construction buildings have been checked by 3 especially-constituted teams, 6 FIRs have been registered, 5 walks have been organised, 2 seminars were arranged and 10,000 pamphlets have been distributed.
The Wasa official spokesman briefed about daily work being carried out by the department to eradicate the dengue virus. All leaking sewerage and water pipelines are being repaired. The stagnant water, which remains standing on roads, is being cleaned through sucking machines and sanitation staff.
The TMA official spokesman said that its staff while visiting sites clean graveyards, take action against owners of old tyre shops.
The PHA spokesman said that parks, gardens and greenbelts are visited by the high officials along with lower staff for cleaning purpose.
