A sub-committee of the Public Account Committee (PAC) on Monday directed the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) to strictly adhere to the rules of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority in its purchases of various commodities.
Chairing the meeting of the sub-committee to discuss the audit paras of 2007-08 Ashiq Hussain Gopang expressed displeasure over the violation of the PPRA rules by the USC in purchase of the products to be sold at the stores.
Audit authorities told the committee that the valuables worth Rs2.087 million were stolen from the USC stores due to the inappropriate measures by the department.
Ministry of Industries and Production officials apprised the body that Rs0.22 million have been recovered on which the PAC directed to recover the remaining amount. It also ordered an inquiry to ascertain whether the valuables were really stolen or grabbed.
