The Montessori Section of the Islamabad Campus of Sadeeqa’s Learning System (SLS) Montessori & High School recently organised a charity carnival as part of their ongoing celebration of the International Day of Charity, says a press release.
The purpose of the carnival was to instill the habit of sharing and helping among the young students of Montessori and of course, make sure the visiting children had a day they wouldn’t forget soon.
Students and teachers of SLS started their preparations for the carnival days in advance. Their guests were similarly aged children of Pehli Kiran, a non-profit school, along with their teachers. Forty-five twinkling eyes and happy smiles from School 8 of Pehli Kiran were welcomed at the Islamabad campus by the students and teachers of SLS. The carnival started off with a puppet show based on a story which had beautiful sound effects and a very important moral as well. The children of both schools laughed, clapped and expressed their joy. The puppet show ended on a sweet note with chocolates and sweets distributed to the children. Then SLS students of Advanced Montessori distributed the toys and gifts they had brought from home, some wrapped with the help of their teachers. As the young SLS students apprehensively gave their gifts to their new friends, it drew a moment amongst all the adults present.
Later in the day, specially prepared lunch boxes were given to the visiting children and colourful head bands made by SLS students for their guests were sent home with them.
Prior to the charity carnival, charity boxes were made and placed inside all the classrooms of the school. SLS students donated generously and the donation was used to buy shoes for the underprivileged children of the nearby slum areas.
Activities related to charity are held at all campuses of SLS throughout the year but interactive activities where students learn to interact with peers of different socio-economic groups are most important in teaching the true meaning of giving.
