A large number of women from different walks of life participated in a rally organised by Jamaat-e-Islami (Women's Wing) in connection with World ‘Hijab’ Day here on Friday.
Led by Nazima Punjab JI Women's Wing Sakina Shahida, the rally was attended by JI Islamabad Ameer Zubair Farooq Khan, Aisha Syed, MNA, ex-MNA Bilquees Saif, former senator Dr. Kausar Firdous, Nazima Islamabad Zeba Khalid, housewives and students of colleges and universities.
Addressing the rally, JI Central Naib Ameer Mian Muhammad Aslam said that ‘hijab’ has been a symbol of piousness and protection for women. But, he said, the western world considers ‘hijab’, as a hurdle in the way of progress.
Speaking on the occasion, other JI leaders said that there was a need to promote Islamic values, including ‘hijab’ in the country. They said that over 90 per cent of country’s population supports ‘hijab’ saying the trend was on the rise in educational institutions.
