The management of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to stop salaries of those officers who do not submit degrees and certificates of their educational qualification by September 10.
A CDA official told 'The News' that the concerned wings of the authority have been issued directives not to release salaries of officers in October (for the month of September) who do not submit their degrees and certificates by September 10.
The CDA sources said that so far around 450 out of 1,100 officers of the civic body have submitted their degrees and certificates to the committee headed by Director General Administration for verification by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and concerned examination boards. "The officers failing to comply with the directives will face further strict action," sources said.
Meanwhile, CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal has started inspecting different sectors in connection with authority's ongoing Islamabad uplift campaign aimed to ensure provision of quality services to the residents of Islamabad. During first phase, the chairman visited markets, parks, avenues and greenbelts in sectors G-6, F-6 and F-7.
Member Administration and Estate Amer Ali Ahmed, Member Engineering Shahid Sohail, senior officers of the environment and other relevant formations accompanied the chairman during the visit.
While visiting parks and greenbelts along major roads of sectors, the chairman directed the Environment Wing to remove rank vegetation, shrubs and bushes and ordered beautification and aesthetic uplift of greenbelts, median strips, roundabouts and intersections. While inspecting general cleanliness of the sectors, the chairman directed the Civic Management Wing to ensure proper collection and disposal of garbage and other waste on daily basis.
He directed the Civic Management Wing to carry out repair, maintenance and painting of dustbins, garbage trolleys and skips in addition to the upgradation of public toilets.
He asked the Engineering Wing for early execution of repair, maintenance and patchwork of roads and footpaths in addition to repair and opening of sewerage and drainage lines and provision of missing manhole covers.
He directed the Member Engineering to ensure uninterrupted supply of water, repair and maintenance of water supply pipelines, water filtration plants and uplift of electrical and civil inquiries in the city. The CDA chairman also directed the removal of illegal 'kiosks', 'kabaar khanas' and all such encroachments which are defacing the natural beauty of Islamabad.
The civic body, however, is yet to take any proactive action to end the commercial use of residential buildings and discourage the trend, particularly in sectors of G and F series.
