A group of nine scholars of the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) left here on Friday for the US to attend a 40-day UNT-NUML Research Fellowship Programme at the University of North Texas (UNT), says a press release.
It was announced during a ceremony here on Thursday in which 4 male and 5 female PhD and M.Phil scholars of English Studies Department of NUML were handed over air tickets and health insurance cards by NUML Rector Major General (r) Zia-ud-Din Najam. NUML Director General Brigadier (r) Azam Jamal and Registrar Brigadier (r) Aminullah were also present on the occasion.
The fifth cohort of scholars is proceeding to UNT under Research Fellowship Programme which is part of a three-year academic partnership between NUML and UNT to boost research and academic culture in the university.
The first cohort, comprising faculty members, attended the fellowship programme in August 2013, second cohort, consisting of PhD and MPhil scholars, attended the same fellowship in January 2014 while 3rd and 4th cohort attended the programme in June 2014 and October 2014 respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, NUML Rector Major General (r) Zia-ud-Din Najam said that this would be a golden opportunity for scholars to learn and integrate latest research and academic practices at UNT and then apply them to their own environment and classes. He said: “You would be representatives of your culture, society and nation. It is up to you that how you make them to see your country through your eyes.”
He said that such programmes are useful for the exposure of students and faculty and NUML is striving hard to maximise such programmes to other universities of the world to give NUML scholars opportunities to excel in life and play their due role in development of national education sector.
NUML Director General Brigadier (r) Azam Jamal, while expressing his views, said that the fellowships under the NUML-UNT Partnership Programme would provide participants an opportunity to tap a huge source of research database and material available at the UNT to bring substantial improvement and give a broader perspective to their research papers as well as maintain a liaison with their counterparts at the UNT English Department. This link will provide them an edge in terms of resources, methodologies and understanding in their research and teaching approaches, he added.
In the end, NUML Registrar Brigadier (r) Aminullah briefed the participant of fifth cohort regarding their travel and stay and gave them useful information regarding their visit.
