If one stands at Tipu Road opposite Rawalpindi Medical College, one can find many government and non-government establishments. There are three congested areas including Javed Colony, Nadeem Colony and Arya Mohalla situated nearby.
These perhaps are among the most notorious localities in the city. The greatest scourge is the ever-increasing number of transsexuals/eunuchs/third sex who have made the area as their nerve centre. Add to this the general decadence of our moral fabric and effortless ease with which impressionable youths can have affairs with the opposite sex.
The end result is that there has been an alarming increase in street crimes and also heinous ones. Transsexuals come out in the evening and it is very difficult from a distance to determine their gender. Some adventurists are lured by them and they spread foul and abominable business. But another phase of their activities is that they commit crimes; steal thing unattended; break into houses, snatch purses and mobiles from womenfolk and even men. They egg upon others from the younger generation to commit such crimes.
All told with the sunset this area becomes deserted. There is not much movement and eunuchs are on the prowl. They do not remain restricted to the area but spread to Moti Mahal, Mareer Chowk and even Tipu Road. The law and order is so precarious that people fear to use the way to enter Nadeem Colony and Javed Colony.
Others steps are overdue. As far as I understand there is no police station in the locality and the nearest is either Raja Bazaar or the Waris Khan. I urge the IG police to immediately set up a police station, or if that is not immediately possible, a police post right opposite the RMC. Even if that cannot be done immediately, at least police round must be made compulsory till late in the night. The policemen should be deputed to take regular rounds of the locality. Those indulging in dubious activities must be nabbed. Those found guilty must not be spared. Presence of police there would deter the criminals and provide a sense of security to the residents. I hope police will accept it as a challenge.
