Ali Tariq, consultant and editor at the Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue of the International Islamic University (IIU), is set to represent Pakistan at the Interfaith Programme Summer School 2015 of the University of Cambridge, UK, after selection.
Ali Tariq is the only researcher from Pakistan. He will be among an international group of emerging religious leaders from Muslim, Christian, and Jewish backgrounds.
The fellow students have come from across the world, including a group of participants from the Sultanate of Oman, a key supporter of the programme, as well as students from Indonesia, Yemen, Nigeria, Palestine, Sweden, Singapore and the UK. The programme will begin today (July 29) and conclude on August 14.
The Summer School is an intensive period of immersion in inter-faith and cross-cultural encounter, with a focus on practical peace-making and conflict-transformation.
It will explore some of the resources that each tradition offers for peaceful and serious engagement with the others, and look for the forms of coexistence and friendship that are possible between traditions that remain distinct and different.
