An exhibition of fine art photography by Soofia Mahmud was inaugurated at MyArtWorld here on Monday.
As a child when Soofia was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, her firm reply was always ‘an artist.’ Later on, however, she chose the beaten path and graduated from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi, with a master’s in marketing.
After many years of being part of the rat race, an unplanned period of respite led her to her photography and eventually herself. Her photographic qualifications include her own instinct and some workshops attended in Lahore, Bangkok and Singapore. She has showcased her work in a solo show at Pikture Gallery in Bangkok in 2011, a group show in Al-Hamra, Lahore, in 2012, and represented at Pikture Gallery, Bangkok, and Fadi Mogabgab-Art Contemporian, in Beirut.
She is currently in the process of migration in the hope of pursuing her art. Her last and most recent job in her alternate world was at Unicef Pakistan as communications for development officer.
“Life holds many mysteries. But the biggest enigma for anyone is oneself,” she says. “Every image that I create, every frame that you see, every colour that you absorb, unfolds a tiny part of the mystery that is me; that is you.”
The exhibition will continue at MyArtWorld (House no. 5-A, Aga Khan Road, F-6/3) till Friday (July 31) from 12 noon to 7 p.m.
