There must be many genuine buyers in the market to buy to do their last minute shopping for Eid, but there are many, almost equal numbers of people who come out at night to enjoy the window shopping and cherish the Eid festivity. All the glitter and glitz of festivity is enjoyed by the onlooker who satiate their eyes with robust of colours, glaring lights and bombarding sound of music that attracts the crowd to buy things of their choice.
Those living nearby the market have the privilege to walk to the nearby markets and enjoy the pre-Eid fiesta but those who want to check out the rates before buying, getting their clothes altered or just wander in the market for window shopping have to think twice before visiting the main markets because it takes quite a while before you luckily find a parking space for a vehicle. This situation gets worse after the ‘iftar’ time when all the buyers rush into the markets and continues till late at night.
Tahmeena while talking to this scribe said that earlier we used to go to the main markets to buy even one or two things that were left for the preparation of Eid, but now it’s a daunting task for her to drive the car in such rush and even get a parking place for her car. “It is good that a part of Bank Road, Saddar has turned into a walking street but where do we park our cars to go there. Its need of the hour now that multi storied parking plazas should be built in the main market like Saddar and Commercial Market on the likes of Raja Bazaar to manage the traffic rush. We used to love window shopping before Eid so that we could be aware of the latest trends of the market but now if we luckily get a parking place we hurriedly buy the things on a same day and rush out from the traffic mess,” she said.
Shehla, a housewife said that to avoid the traffic jams that clog the roads in and around the market, I always do all the Eid preparations before Ramazan. It literally takes couple of hours before you can buy a thing, but Humera a student was of a different opinion, we cannot miss this festivity before Eid and we thoroughly enjoy all this traffic jam, hustle bustle and bright lights of markets. The latest designs only come out few days before Eid and how can we miss the opportunity. The bangles, the jewellery and purses are always bought at the last moments to enjoy the environment. This window shopping is better than buying because you don’t spend money just looking at beautiful things, after all Eid comes after a very long wait,” she said.
