Few days left before Eidul Fitr, the women of twin cities go on a salon spree to get their services done as it is also a challenge for the salons to handle large influx of customers till late night.
After the shopping is done, clothes and its accessories are brought, then comes the time to pamper oneself and indulge in relaxing mode in a soothing environment. There are times when this tranquillity turns into a bustling environment with number of customers arguing for their turns or not satisfied with their services on ‘Chand Raat’. Salons double their staff to keep pace with the rush of customers so that they don’t have to wait for turn endlessly.
The attractive packages offered at the salons these days are luring women to avail the services with exuberant rates. Women are happily falling into the trap of expensive treatments and getting things they don’t need, but are still happy with the services. One cannot deny the fact that there are certain treatments that trigger allergies to certain women and this is a bad time for experimentation prior to Eid that can jeopardize ones desire to look perfect on ‘Eid’ Day.
One customer, Samina while talking to this scribe said that usually the services individually are affordable but in the package along with other services their prices go up. “Like facial plus hair oil massage is almost Rs3,000. Manicure, pedicure, threading and normal facial is Rs2,700. Body wax and neck massage is Rs3,000. The rates have been increased and I can afford only two services now. But there are many women who can easily spend thousands of rupees to get their services done in one sitting on this occasion of Eid,” she said.
When asked about the increased rates of the packages, the salon girl replied with a smile that you don’t want us to earn on Eid too. This is the time when all the women and girls come for the services and get the services of haircut, hair treatment, dyes, streaking, waxing, manicures, pedicures, blow drying, henna application etc. “and don’t forget to get your booking for ‘mehndi’ on ‘Chand Raat’, we have hired many girls for henna application and will put a tent outside the parlour to accommodate all our customers,” she said.
Maryam, one of the owners of a salon said that their rates were very reasonable and everyone can afford easily and the packages they were offering were according to the rates available at every salon in the area. “Besides we have hired extra staff to easily accommodate our old and new customers till ‘Chand Raat’,” she added.
