The Javed Colony and Arya Mohallah had always faced the brunt of flooding in Nullah Leh, but the rainwater recedes very quickly after the rain passes. However, on Tuesday the phenomenon was not the same because of a hindrance in flow of rainwater.
The under construction narrow bridge near Ariana Hotel on Benazir Bhutto Road led to the obstruction in receding the flow of rainwater after it had inundated the low-lying localities of Jan Colony and Arya Mohallah, thus creating lots of problems for the inhabitants of these areas.
Talking to this scribe, Mohammad Khalid, a resident of Arya Mohallah said that they had always been prepared for inundation of their area after heavy rains, but this time the rainwater receded very slowly. “It happened just because of the slow pace of work on the bridge on Nullah Leh near Ariana Hotel. It blocked the backflow of the rainwater thus adding to our woes and we had to wait for long for water to clear,” he added.
He appealed to the authorities concerned to pay heed towards their problem and order timely completion of the work so that during further Monsoon rains, their area is not affected by the floodwater.
