The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to take stern action against stall holders for fleecing the customers at weekly bazaars, which are established thrice a week at different locations in urban and rural areas.
Member Administration and Estate, Capital Development Authority (CDA), Amer Ali Ahmed while chairing a meeting to review the arrangements made by the authority to provide quality edible items at affordable rates at CDA’s weekly bazaars. He said that due to stability in prices of different edible items being provided and their availability in abundance have largely benefited the residents of twin cities during the holy month of Ramazan, however, weekly bazaar administration should ensure effective monitoring to provide quality food stuff to the residents.
In-charge Weekly Bazaars, Liaquat Abbasi apprised the Member Administration and Estate that Weekly Bazaars administration has taken consolidated steps to provide fresh and quality edible items at affordable rates resultantly these daily use items are being sold at cheaper rates than the other markets of Islamabad.
He apprised that strict and effective monitoring is being ensured and for the first time complaint centres have been established in the fruits and vegetable section, in addition to bazaar administration office, to facilitate the consumers visiting these bazaars.
He said that during special checking 11 stalls have been suspended for overcharging during the month of Ramazan.
He informed the meeting that earlier, on the directions of Member Administration a meeting was also held between bazaar administration and stall holders representatives where they agreed to minimise their profits from 5 to 10 rupees on each item.
He apprised that due to effective monitoring different edible items which include
Member Administration and Estate Amer Ali Ahmed also directed the In-charge weekly bazaars to take more steps to maintain the stability in the prices.
He directed to enhance the security of the bazaars and directed the bazaar staff for prompt redressal of the complaints of the consumers.
He said that the price difference shows that these bazaars are providing relief to the residents but strict and indiscriminate operation would continue against the violators.
