Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has played down the rumors regarding dozens of its former parliamentarians from Punjab leaving party ranks and maintained “it can be a wishful thinking but has no truth in it”.
Talking to The News, former federal minister and PPP’s Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira said some quarters have been spreading rumors on the basis of their ‘personal wishes’ but the reality is that ideological workers of PPP still stand with the party and they would not leave it at any cost.
“Some names of the PPP’s former parliamentarians are being spread on the wish of some quarters claiming that they are leaving their party. But I want to make it clear that ideological workers can never ever think about leaving the party that was established by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto,” he said.
According to reports, some disgruntled former parliamentarians of PPP are looking towards other political parties especially Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to secure their political future including Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Nawabzada Malik Amad Khan, Hayatullah Khan Tareen, Tariq Mahmood Bajwa, Mehmood Hayat Khan, Advocate Muhammad Ijaz Virk, Chaudhry Zahid Iqbal, Syed Inayat Ali Shah, Abdul Qayyum Khan Jatoi, Muhammad Tariq Tarar, Muhammad Tariq Anis, Tariq Shabbir, Sardar Salim Haider Khan, Sajjadul Hassan, Liaquat Ali Khan, Chaudhry Iftikhar Nazir, Malik Nawab Sher, Muhammad Mohsin Ali Qureshi, Muhammad Moazam Ali Khan Jatoi, Chaudhry Saeed Iqbal, Arif Aziz Sheikh and Javed Iqbal Warraich.
Qamar Zaman Kaira said when anyone asks him about the rumors stating a large number of PPP’s members are leaving the party ranks then he only says “I just don’t want to talk about rumors.”
To a question, he said every party faces ups and downs in the politics and PPP is the party of the people that would continue to support it on the basis of its ideology and commitment towards the democracy.
