The Gogi Studios, on behalf of GIZ Biodiversity Project (BKP) and the Government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, conducted an awareness programme on the conservation and sustainability of biodiversity in Swat and Chitral districts.
Talking to ‘The News’ here on Wednesday, Nigar Nazar of Gogi Studios, said that they designed a programme to promote awareness and education through fun activities regarding environment, wildlife, forestry and biodiversity conservation in the province. “This was executed as part of the celebrations of International Day for Biological Diversity in Shamozai Valley of Swat.”
Nigar Nazar informed that the two-day event was not just full of knowledge on the sensitive topic at hand but it gave information in the most unique manner that the young target audience could relate and understand easily. The event was a mix of puppetry, live drawing sessions, life size games, books and material on environment, art competition and much more.
She said that biodiversity refers to the variety of life found on earth including animals, humans, forests and the connections between all these things. For example, cutting down forests for timber destroys natural habitat of animals, endangering their existence. Similarly, protecting the environment and planting saplings create safer places for animals, birds and insects to live and grow while providing food, oxygen & sustenance for humans. Biodiversity is crucial for survival of human beings as sustenance of our ecosystem depends on it.
The distribution of the Gogi Book titled ‘Koorey ka Jinn’ (Garbage Monster), Gogi Sketch Book, stationery pouches & Gogi Badges to remind the kids about the pledge to look after and sustain the environment was a part of the programme.
Biodiversity was introduced to the Swat kids while live drawing was done by Nigar Nazar, giving the young audience a feel of the importance of the biodiversity through her cartoons and characters.
To reinforce the message on environment and biodiversity, a reproduction of the boardgame from ‘The Garbage Monster’ (author: Nigar Nazar) was played with the kids to teach them the importance of environment and biodiversity.
