It’s official, now. June 10 will be the last day of students at government schools and colleges before the two-month summer vacation.
According to a notification of the Federal Directorate of Education, the public sector educational institutions in the capital city will keep campuses closed for summer vacations from 11 June to August 10.
Repair and maintenance will be carried out at schools and colleges during the period.
Though there’s no official word, the city’s private educational institutions are likely to follow suit.
Some parents have complained about the vacation schedule and said FDE should follow Punjab education department, which had announced closure of educational institutions in the province from June 1 on account of summer vacation.
“I won’t send my little children to school after 1 June. It’s already too hot and the days will be hotter. The CADD minister should review summer vacation schedule and change the school closure from June 11 to 1 June,” Muhammad Sikandar, father of three, said.
Jabeen Khan, mother of a schoolgirl, also made the same demand.
“In Punjab, summer vacation for schoolchildren will begin on June 1 over hot weather. Since Islamabad and Punjab have the same weather conditions, I fail to understand the rationale behind the school closure in Islamabad from June 11. The schedule should be revisited,” she said.
Another parent, Shazia Gulzar, said the vacation should last two and a half months in light of hot summer days.
