Parliamentary Secretary for the Capital Administration and Development Division Raja Muhammad Javed Ikhlas on Friday directed the Federal Directorate of Education bosses to ensure creation of awareness of ways to prevent dengue among students of the schools and colleges overseen by it as well as their parents.
He also asked the authorities to pre-empt the threat of the emergence of dengue this year and ordered a follow up meeting in this regard.
The directions were issued during a meeting called here during a high-level meeting to discuss dengue preventive measures. Dengue is feared to hit Islamabad and other parts of the country after mid-July.
The meeting was attended by the representatives from CA&DD, Capital Development Authority, Islamabad Capital Territory, FDE and Polyclinic.
The parliamentary secretary pointed out the absence of solid waste management mechanism in Islamabad. He also said that waste dumping in the open was a big cause of outbreak of dengue.
The relevant officials informed the parliamentary secretary about the dengue prevention activities carried out previously like awareness campaign and said stagnant clean water was main cause of the growth of vector mosquito which caused dengue.
