The Air University will announce scholarships for PhD programmes, through which, it will not only give free education to intelligent and deserving students but also give them stipends, said Air University Vice Chancellor Air Vice Marshal (r) Faaiz Amir (Hilal-e-Imtiaz Military, S.Bt.), in an interview with ‘The News’ International.
He said that the university is planning to expand its programmes in addition to starting the Fazaia Medical College within one-and-a-half years. “The Air University is offering bachelor’s, master’s, MS and Ph.D programmes in different disciplines,” he said.
Air Vice Marshal (r) Faaiz Amir said in recognition of the achievements of the university, the prime minister has allotted land to it in Sector H-11, Islamabad, for building a new campus.
The vice chancellor said that the Air University is a federally-chartered public sector university devoted to academic excellence in teaching and research. Its nationally-accredited and recognised programmes prepare undergraduate and graduate students for leadership and service in their respective disciplines.
He said that the mission of the Air University is to achieve excellence in teaching and research for producing graduates with sound professional knowledge, integrity of character, keen sense of social responsibility, passion for lifelong learning and serving the nation and the country.
The vice chancellor said that the Air University was founded in 2002 and within a short span of only 13 years it has not only gained good reputation but also produced good professionals who are now contributing to society.
Air Vice Marshal (r) Faaiz Amir said that they are focusing on quality rather than quantity. That’s why they give admission to students according to their capability and capacity of the university to give best results.
While commenting on the overall education standard in the country, the vice chancellor said that the government should take education as a mega project. The primary education is important to produce good students for higher studies, he added.
He said that the government should encourage universities to create research environment to solve problems in the country, as China has doubled the number of universities within a few years and now they are getting benefit from them.
Air Vice Marshal (r) Faaiz Amir said that multinational companies and media houses should also come forward and play their role in promoting education in the country. “These companies can help in promoting education by building blocks on university campuses with their names,” he added.
Talking about the Education Expo 2015 being organised by the Jang Media Group, the Air University vice chancellor said such programmes are very helpful for students and parents in selecting a suitable university. He said that students would get an opportunity to meet representatives of several universities under one roof and can get detailed information about different disciplines.
