The 2nd ‘All Pakistan Academic Excellence Award Ceremony’ was held under the auspices of Federal Government Educational Institutions Directorate (Cantonments & Garrisons) recently at FG Sir Syed College Rawalpindi.
Inspector General Training and Evaluation Lt Gen Ikram ul Haq, HI (M), graced the occasion as the chief guest. Human Resource Development Director General Maj Gen Muhammad Iqbal Asi, HI (M), was also among the revered guests.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Directors of FGEIs Regions, GSO-1s of Regional Offices, principals, teachers, students and their parents.
The ceremony was part of the FGEIs recently launched programmne of encouraging high achievers — students, teachers, and institutions, by awarding prizes for their academic performances in primary, middle, matric, intermediate, and university exams. The students were awarded medals, certificates, and cash awards for excelling in their respective classes. The best teachers and the best institutions were also given awards and prizes for their academic results. The whole ceremony wore a festive look with mirth and jubilation all around.
Lt. Gen Ikram ul Haq congratulated the prize winners for their brilliant achievements, and appreciated the academic efforts of FGEIs, set-up to improve the quality of education, saying that ‘things in FGEIs are being steered in the right direction’. He acknowledged the fact that despite limitations, there is a genuine urge to address the prime issues with a deep sense of commitment. He expressed his satisfaction over the relative standing of FGEIs in Board and University results highlighting the improvement in all three areas of academic results of FGEIs in 2014 i.e. pass percentage, GPAs, and board positions. Despite scarcity of financial resources, he said, the upkeep and performance of FGEIs is going pretty well.
Before that, Brigadier Khush Muhammad Khan, the Director FGEIs (Cantonments and Garrisons), delivered his inaugural address in which he highlighted prominent achievements of FGEIs, including those in academics. He gave a brief run-down of multiple measures being taken by FGEI Directorate including development works and provision of allied educational facilities to about 185,000 FG students in all 355 institutions of the country. Here are some of the main features of the academic results 2014 of FGEIs:-
In 2014, a total number of 6,264 students appeared in HSSC Part-II Board examination; their pass percentage remained 85.98 which is 2.59% higher than the previous year’s percentage.
The GPA of FGEIs students in HSSC Exam has increased from 3.14 to 3.21 in 2014.
The highest GPA achieved by GF institution in HSSC Exam is 4.33 by FG Inter College Bahawalpur Cantonment.
Four of FGEIs students won prominent positions in FBISE Islamabad, there include; Ashna Aslam of FG Girls Inter College Karachi who won the 1st position in Karachi Board Exam in Arts Group.
Syed Abdul Moiz of FG Degree College Hyderabad Cantonment stood 3rd in ICS Group in Hyderabad Board.
Saiqa Hafeez of FG Degree College for Women Abid Majeed Raod Rawalpindi stood 2nd in HSSC Part-II Exam by scoring 991 marks, with an average of 90.09.
In Secondary School Certificate exam, a total of 12,313 students appeared in 2014; their pass percentage remained 92.10 which is 1.15% higher than the previous year’s average.
The GPA of FGEIs students in SSC exams has also increased from 3.55 to 3.76.
The highest GPA achieved by any FG institution in SSC exam is 5.50 by FG Public School Thall, Kohat.
Students of FG Sir Syed School and College of Special Education have continued their tradition of winning top three positions each in the Punjab University as well as in SSC exam; they are:-
Bilal Mansoor stood 1st in the University of Punjab, Safia Sultana got 2nd position in the University, Saima Tabassum secured 3rd position, Sana Sattar stood 1st in the board, Maimoona Naz got 2nd position and Laraib Tanveer remained 3rd.
