The district health department is recruiting as many as 500 workers on daily wages basis for at least 45 days to launch a crash activity for identification and elimination of larvae of ‘aedes aegypti’, the vector that causes dengue fever, in areas falling under jurisdiction of cantonment boards.
The workers on daily wages basis are being recruited because the induction of as many as 1,067 workers including over 700 posts of female workers sanctioned by the Punjab government for carrying out activities under anti-polio drives and to avoid dengue fever outbreak would take not less than 45 days, said Executive District Officer (Health) Dr. Khalid Randhawa while talking to ‘The News’ on Friday.
He explained that the sanctioned staff for anti-polio drives and dengue fever surveillance would be inducted on contract basis for which the health department is following standard operating procedure.
He said the advertisement for recruitment of sanctioned staff has already been appeared in media and April 28 has been given as the last date for submission of applications against the posts for the candidates.
After receiving applications, it would take not less than one-and-a-half months for the district health department to induct 1,067 workers and train them before deploying them in the field for dengue fever surveillance, he added.
It is important that the health department has demanded the provincial government to provide it services of at least 1,062 female health workers along with at least two deputy district health officers for surveillance against dengue fever and carrying out activities under anti-polio drives in Rawalpindi city area and the areas falling under jurisdiction of cantonment boards.
Talking of the induction of staff on daily wages basis, Dr. Randhawa said the staff is being recruited on first come first serve basis though the health department has advertised the posts in media as well.
We are recruiting daily wagers for 45 days and placing them in the field immediately after necessary training to avoid growth of larvae of ‘aedes aegypti’ in cantonment board areas, he said while responding to a query.
He said that the health department has recruited nearly 250 workers on daily wages basis and has placed them in the field for dengue fever surveillance.
Dr. Randhawa added that the cantonment board administrations would provide supervisory and logistics support to the district health department for dengue fever surveillance campaign in the areas falling under their jurisdiction.
