Islamabad: Minister of State for the Capital Administration and Development Division Barrister Usman Ibrahim on Friday ordered the National Book Foundation (NBF) and Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to ensure provision of textbooks to students of government schools in Islamabad Capital Territory by April 30.
Around two months have passed since the new academic session began at Islamabad’s government schools overseen by the FDE but the NBF, the sole printer and distributor of textbooks, has yet to provide students with books.
Taking a notice of the matter, the CADD minister had summoned NBF Managing Director Dr Inamul Haq Javed and FDE Director General Dr Shahnaz Anjum Riaz to explain position on delay in the supply of textbooks to schoolchildren and the latest on the matter.
After hearing versions of both, the minister asked them to ensure the delivery of textbooks to students latest by April 30.
The top NBF and FDE bosses assured him that they would make every effort to meet the deadline.
The minister also directed the relevant authorities to make a mechanism to ensure provision of textbooks to schoolchildren in Islamabad on the very first day of their classes.
Teachers and parents of schoolchildren thanked the minister for intervention and ensuring the immediate provision of textbooks to their children.
