Federal Minister for Science & Technology and Chancellor CIIT Rana Tanveer Hussain has said that knowledge acquirement and higher education are transforming virtually every aspect of today’s world. Addressing the 73rd COMSATS CIIT convocation held here on Tuesday at Convention Centre, he said IT institutions have been trusted to be the centre stage of academia. Such Institutions have the mandate to evolve a knowledge based socioeconomic culture in the country to help the nation to face the modern challenges of globalization.
Students were awarded graduate and postgraduate degrees, who earned BS, MS, MBA and PhD degrees in disciplines of Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics, Biosciences, Business Administration, Computer Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Electronics, Mathematics and Architecture. There were total of 637 successful students at Islamabad campus. PhD degrees were awarded to 15 students in Bio Sciences (01), Physics (05), Computer Sciences (01), Management Sciences (01), Meteorology (01) and Mathematics (06). On the occasion Chancellor’s, Institute and Campus Medals were also awarded to position holding students from CIIT. Graduate and postgraduate students bagged medals with highest CGPA in their respective degree programmes.

He said that CIIT, recognising its duties, is committed to provide the best opportunities for learning and personal development within a caring and supportive environment and he appreciated the achievements of CIIT. He also announced to open a new campus of CIIT in Sialkot.
Institute report was presented by CIIT Registrar Prof. Dr. Azhar Hussain presented the details of CIIT programmes and accomplishments and highlighted the research activates, national and international collaborations and current and future academic programmes and achievements of CIIT. The Chancellor’s Gold medallists included Alina Aizaz Khan, Hina Shafique, Bushra Hashmi, Muhammad Ali Jibran, Himal Naveed, Aamir Ullah Khan, Hafiz Farrukh Sultan Akber and Sahar Iqbal Rao for 73rd convocation of CIIT. COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), a leading degree awarding institution of higher education in Pakistan is among the ‘Centre of Excellence’ of Commission on Science & Technology for sustainable development in the South (COMSATS).

CIIT is ranked 201-250 among top 300 universities in Asia in 2014. In just few years, it has expanded from one campus in Islamabad to seven other campuses one each at Abbottbad, Wah, Lahore, Attock, Sahiwal, Vehari and Virtual campus Islamabad. More than 37,000 students are registered in different campuses of CIIT. It is one of the leading institutions in Pakistan, with a well-established reputation and a wide range of interests and facilities. In its short history, CIIT has contributed considerably in human resource development and successfully completed several assignments of national and international significance CIIT.
