To review Urdu research journals published in the country and suggest steps for their up-gradation besides assessing the status of recognition of different journals, a meeting was held at Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Friday.
University of Gujrat Director General Dr. Anwaar Ahmed chaired the meeting of Sub-committee in Urdu, which was organised by HEC’s Social Sciences Section.
The sub-committee thoroughly evaluated various national journals in Urdu and recommended different cases for recognition and up-gradation. The Committee also evaluated over 50 books in Urdu for equivalence.
The Committee appreciated efforts of the Assistant Professor, Department of Urdu, International Islamic University, Dr. Najeeba Arif, for launching Pakistan’s first abstracting and indexing agency in Urdu.
The Committee members include Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khushk, Chairman, Department of Urdu, Shah Abul Latif University Khairpur; Dr. Tubina Tareen, Chairperson Department of Urdu, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan; Dr. Nasir Abbas Nayyar, Assistant Professor, University of the Punjab Lahore, and Dr. Salman Ali, Department of Urdu, University of Peshawar. Dr. Najeeba Arif has also joined the committee as co-opted member.
