A 45-year-old man was crushed to death by a speeding van in the Sabzazar police limits on Friday.
He was identified as Amin, a resident of Pattoki and worked in Punjab Civil Secretariat. On the day of the incident, he was going to his office on his bike. When he reached near Tokay Wala Chowk, a speeding van hit him. As a result, he fell down and received severe injuries. He was shifted to a nearby hospital where he died. Police have arrested the driver and registered a case against him.
ACCIDENTS: At least 681 road traffic accidents were reported in Rescue 1122’s Provincial Monitoring Cell in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours; in which eight lives were lost and 583 seriously injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant district.
However, some 249 minor injured were provided first aid by Rescue 1122 on the spot.
DRUG ABUSE: Anti-Narcotics Consultant Syed Zulfiqar Hussain has said the women especially mothers can play an effective role in discouraging use of hard and soft drugs among our young people.
He was delivering a lecture on ‘Drug abuse, prevention and Oxi shots’ at Government Degree College for Women, China Scheme Lahore on Friday.
He said his organisation had established a drug advisory training and counselling centre in Lahore where they were arranging training programmes, counselling for drug addicts and their families, an internship programme for the youth on drug abuse besides coordinating with law enforcement agencies to reduce the level of drug addiction in society.
He said a campaign was being launched against new trend of drug addiction called oxygen shots which is inhaled with some specific sedative flavours in various areas of Lahore. Oxi shots are very harmful and this is a new kind of drug addiction in the cafes after
