The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) conducted five operations in Islamabad, Attock and Karachi, which resulted in recovery of 18 kilograms of heroin and 3,000 psychotropic tablets, the spokesman for ANF Headquarters said on Wednesday.
The value of recovered drugs amounts to Rs119.7 million in the international market. The ANF arrested seven persons, including a woman, involved in drug trafficking and seized a vehicle.
Acting on a tip-off, the ANF Rawalpindi intercepted a Honda Civic car (ICT-SX-846) at Iqbal Shaheed Toll Plaza, GT Road, Attock. During search of the vehicle, 17 kilograms of heroin was recovered from improvised cavities of the car. Two persons on board, namely Muhammad Riaz, resident of Mardan, and a woman, Sajida Perveen, resident of Faisalabad, were taken into custody. As per preliminary investigation, they were coming from Jamrud and intended to proceed to Faisalabad for delivery of heroin to a narcotics gang.
The ANF Rawalpindi Airport Team detained a passenger, Muhammad Hanif, resident of Haripur, at Benazir International Airport, Islamabad. During interrogation, the accused confessed to having ingested heroin-filled capsules. Later, 35 heroin-filled capsules, weighing 310 grams, were recovered. He intended to take off for Bangkok by Thai Air flight (TG-350).
The ANF Rawalpindi Airport Team, in an information-based operation at Benazir International Airport, Islamabad, held a Dubai-bound passenger, Sohail Aamir, resident of Buner. During interrogation, he confessed to having heroin-filled capsules in his stomach. He was admitted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Rawalpindi, which resulted in recovery of 109 heroin-filled capsules weighing 630 grams. He intended to board on Shaheen Airlines flight NL-221.
The ANF Karachi Airport Team, during routine surveillance at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, arrested Yasir Khan, resident of Mardan, and Irfan, resident of Buner. The two confessed to having gulped heroin-filled capsules. They were to fly to Dubai by Air Blue flight (PA-118).
The ANF Karachi Airport Team intercepted a passenger namely Saleem, a resident of Karachi, at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi. On searching his luggage, 3,000 psychotropic tablets (Xanax) were recovered. The tablets were concealed in a candy box. He intended to proceed to Jeddah by a PIA flight.
