At the Vice Chancellors Forum, ‘The News’ got the opportunity to interact with the VC of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University (SBKWU) Professor Dr. Rukhsana Jabeen. This university is based in Quetta and it is the only women university in Baluchistan.
The vice chancellor said that we need to change the mindset of the tribal so that they send their daughters to a university to acquire Higher Education. “There was a bomb blast in our university that increased the drop out initially, but after one year, the enrollment rate tripled and people have realised that education is the only way forward for their country. Now we are having a strength of 4,000 girls in our university and have 19 departments. In our newly introduced departments of Bio-chemistry, Biotechnology, Environment Science, Computer and Management Sciences, many girls are taking much interest and getting enrolled in these subjects, that reflects the interests of girls in these subjects. With the collaboration of HEC, 62 of our students have gone abroad to acquire PhD degree.
After coming back from abroad, these students would be an asset for our university,” she said. Talking about her university the VC said that SBKWU offers a full range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Our undergraduate programs have been carefully designed to ensure that each student is well prepared for the working environment of the 21st century. Most of the programs provide skills and knowledge that are applied at public, private and corporate sectors.
Focusing on these attributes, SBKWU dedicates itself to be at par with international universities. The core values of intellectual freedom, diversity, individuality and creativity underpin everything that a modern university with a vision and rich heritage does. The research focused teaching ensures that our students are the recipients of the best quality education with an effort to make them conscientious, independent and self reliant in their pursuit of knowledge.
We are also convinced that in future universities will not only be assessed by the quality of the graduates who have walked through their portals but also by the quality of its national and international collaborations and active industry - academia linkages. We always look forward to VC Forum because through this platform we are able to get scholarships and fee-waver to our students. Our students need exposure and through such forum we can interact and collaborate with each other.
