Islamabad: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has empowered universities to maintain high standard of education and examination at the affiliated medical and dental colleges and hospitals.
According to PMDC Registrar Dr Amjad Mehmood, his organisation has asked the universities to ensure that medical and dental colleges offer admissions and all their examinations are strictly monitored and evaluated, and the teaching faculty of undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental colleges are registered with PMDC within three months of their appointment in line with the PMDC criteria.
He said the universities had also been told to ensure the registration of undergraduate and postgraduate students within three months of their admission as well as more than 60 per cent bed occupancy in teaching hospitals.
“These steps have been initiated to hold better monitoring measures to maintain standards in medical education,” he said. The PMDC registrar said notifications had been issued after discussion with vice chancellors and deans of universities.
