Abundance of joy can be attained on Eidul Fitr by being charitable not only with our wealth but with our words, actions and souls. Keeping this in mind, an activity was designed by Pakistan’s renowned cartoonist Nigar Nazar for young patients who are confined to the wards over Eid. These children were given sets of comic books that brought a smile on their face.
These young children cannot enjoy the Eid to the fullest as they are admitted in the hospital because of their health conditions.
Nigar Nazar while talking to ‘The News’ said that on this auspicious day, may we reach out to those who are less fortunate and may we learn to live with those who are not like us. Visiting the children’s ward at PIMS hospital and the Cardiac Department of AFIC for children, I came out with a satisfying peaceful feeling .To see children smile when they received the bundle of colourful comic storybooks was in itself such a joy. One child was wailing in pain with the injection he was receiving but as soon as he saw the comic books through his teary eyes a smile spread on his face,” she said.
Nigar said that up to now, 6,000 children from marginalized communities have received the comic books in Urdu and over 10,000 children have received them in Pashto in KP and adjoining areas.
Each awareness comic book carries a message of awareness on various issues such as ‘Anti Sectarian violence’, ‘Corruption’, ‘Girls Education’, ‘Stranger Danger’ (on recruitment of children by extremist groups),’Women’s Rights’ and ‘Environment’. All of these comics tell stories through the delightful medium of cartoons.
Nigar said that anyone who wants to contribute in sponsoring these books for a deserving child can do so by messaging on the official Facebook page called ‘gogi studios’.
