The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has initiated a crackdown against the public service vehicles (PSVs) to implement new fares announced last day, the spokesman of the ICT administration said.

Dozens of PSVs have been impounded and heavy fines were being imposed on drivers found getting old fares from the commuters.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Amer Ali Ahmad, when contacted by this correspondent regarding non-compliance of implementation of new fares by the PSV drivers, said that upon receiving complaints from the commuters, various teams have been sent to different routes to check the new fares list and to interview the commuters regarding over-charging. The DC said that ruthless drive has been initiated against the PSVs involved in overcharging, adding, “The drivers would be arrested who would overcharge after giving them final warning and I have ordered the ICT team to impose heavy fine on the drivers involved in not displaying new fares list in their PSVs.” He said that the drive have been launched round the clock.

Meanwhile, Secretary, Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA), Khawaja Maqbool Mustafa conducted surprise traffic checking on various routes and challaned 55 public service vehicles and impounded dozens of vehicles for overcharging and not completing the designated routes.

He also imposed fines amounting Rs25,000 on the violators.

The secretary Islamabad Transport Authority directed the transporters to strictly comply with the revised reduced fares and complete the designated routes. He said that he would daily conduct checking and would ensure the strict implementation of fares. He said that public complaints pertaining to non-completion of routes and over charging would be addressed on the spot.
