‘Education a bigger alternative to positive thinking’

Punjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, highlighting the importance of promotion of education on Wednesday, said there was no bigger alternative to positive thinking than education.
While addressing the inaugural session of the two-day 2nd international conference on engineering sciences organised by varsity’s Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology (ICET), he further said students should not only focus on getting high scores, but they should also aim at learning knowledge. But no one could become knowledgeable without the strength of character, he added.
Prof Dr Ihtesham-ur-Rehman from UK, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof Dr Taqi Zahid Butt, Director ICET Prof Dr Amir Ijaz, Principal CEET Prof Dr Rafiq Ahmad, senior faculty members, scholars from abroad and Pakistan and a large number of students were also present.
PU VC further said knowledge was a source of power and emphasised that we have to produce knowledgeable and practical professionals. Prof Dr Ihtesham-urRehman talked about the new challenges in bio-materials. He said the country had all resources to carry out research in this area.
Dr Taqi Zahid Butt said ICET had produced many professionals who were working in practical life for the betterment of the country. Dr Amir said there would be 10 technical sessions in three parallel streams in which 52 presentations covered chemical engineering, safety, energy, materials, water and environment.
Meanwhile, the 5th International/10th National Conference of Pakistan Phytopathological Society (PPS) on “Crop Protection for Sustainable Agriculture” held at Punjab University Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAGS) has been concluded on Wednesday.
According to a press release, MPA Ch Gulzar Ahmad Gujjar, Director IAGS Dr Muhammad Saleem Haider, Resident Officer-I Prof Dr Sajid Rashid, Chief PARB Dr Noor-ul-Islam, faculty members, students and scientists from abroad and within the country were also present.
